Daycare mornings move fast. The difference between a smooth drop-off and a frazzled one usually comes down to what's already packed the night before. Here's a simple, parent-tested checklist — and a few tips that make repacking almost automatic.
The non-negotiables
- Two full spare outfits. Not one — two. Water play, lunch spills and toilet-training surprises rarely schedule themselves. Easy pull-on pieces like matching sets mean carers can change your little one quickly.
- A warm layer, even in summer. Air-conditioned rooms run cool. A soft cardigan or knit that goes over anything earns its place year-round.
- Spare socks. They vanish. Pack more than feels reasonable — a multi-pack lives happily in the bottom of the bag.
- A sun hat and a drink bottle — most centres require both, and both love going missing. Label everything.
Choose clothes carers will thank you for
Daycare clothes work hardest of all. The best picks are soft, stretchy and self-serve friendly: elastic waists on pants and shorts, roomy necklines on tees, and nothing with fiddly buttons at the back. Save the special pieces for weekends — daycare is where the comfy favourites belong.
The repack routine
- Empty the bag every evening — wet things out, artwork admired.
- Refill spares straight from the clean-washing pile so the bag is never the last job.
- Keep a small "backup stash" of outgrown-soon sizes; when a spare comes home worn, swap in the next one.
One last tip: pack spares one size up rather than one size down — too big always works for an afternoon, too small never does. If you're due a spare-clothes top-up, our Everyday & Play edit is built for exactly these days.
